It’s the month of love and SA PROMO Magazine did some investigation into South Africans dating non-South Africans.

Carine is married to a British guy who she met at Waterloo station when he joined her and a friend for a drink in a pub. And the rest is history!

What are the main cultural differences between you and your partner?

Hmm... they have turkey on Christmas Day and only open presents in the afternoon of Christmas Day! In SA, we braai and have salads and cold meats on Christmas day and open our pressies on Christmas eve or Christmas morning.

The English have the pub culture, whereas in SA we braai. We pay our bills separately and the English split a restaurant bill into the amount of people present (doesn't matter if you didn't drink or habe desert!)

They also never drink and drive in UK.

What is the best thing about him not being South African?

His British accent and his British passport!

What are the challenges of being with a non-South African?

The language barrier, as he doesn't always understand our humour and sarcasm! He also thinks it is acceptable to live in s country with horrible weather most of the time! (It so isn’t!)
