Best Thing About the Country?
Oh man – just one thing ? I’d say the sun, sea and friendly atmosphere.
Biggest Cultural Difference?
The differences are subtle – we are generally religious and capitalists while they tend to be secular and socialists.
Top Things to Do or See?
1. Natural miracles - The Great Barrier Reef, The Rainforests, The Beaches of Queensland, The Outback and Uluru
2. The Winelands of Victoria, Western Australia or South Australia
3. Sydney – Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, Opera House, The Ferries, Taronga Zoo, the Botanic Gardens, Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The side gate crashes open as another bike-load of boys tear off their shirts and speed across the lawn, dashing to join the growing thunder of splashes and laughter in the pool. On the far side of the porch, the prawns sizzle away on the barbie, spreading their aroma through the thick, hot summer air. Endless blue skies, sunshine, sun-tanned bodies, bare feet and a cold beer in the hand, sitting with my feet up on the lounge chair, the obstinate squawking of a cockatoo from the Blue gums out back putting the finishing touches… to my back yard.
G’Day Mates and welcome to life Down Under ! A massive country of wide open spaces, fresh air, blue skies, great sportsman, interesting animals and friendly people, Australia is the home of many foreigners, with a quarter of all residents foreign-born. Tens of thousands (if not more) of these immigrants are South Africans – not surprising really when you look at the huge correlation in lifestyle, culture, sports, interests, food, geography, landscape, weather, etc. It has often been said that Australia is South Africa without the troubles… Others see Oz as England with sunshine.. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, either way, it is hard to go wrong when choosing Australia ! Saffers are generally well-liked and accepted here, as long as you come ashore with a willingness to work hard, be honest, fit into the Aussie way of life and forget about all things material you’ll be fine. No worries mate !
