I run an expat social club for South Africans called South African Tarheels.  We are based in Raleigh North Carolina.  There are a lot of South Africans in our area and we have a great community.

I have learnt that Americans are a kind and generous people.  They throw their hearts into whatever they do.  This is a culture which reaches out to fellow citizens and kids are taught to speak up and stand out.

The hardest thing about immigration is that the majority of one's family remain in South Africa. I worry about mine.

Although I love South Africa and it will always retain a soft spot in my heart we have integrated into the American life and it would be difficult for us to go back now.  We have been living in the USA for 10 years next month!  It is a great country!
