In 1994, the year democracy dawned and Afrikaans finally lost its political dominance, a group of Afrikaans media and cultural organisations teamed up to launch the Pendoring Afrikaans Advertising Awards. The awards intended to reward advertising created in Afrikaans.
The ATKV, a cultural organisation through which the Afrikaans culture as a whole is experienced, promoted, enhanced and expanded, so as to make an indispensable contribution in Southern Africa, has been involved as a founding sponsor in the awards.
The call for entries campaign was announced in 4 June, created by Draftfcb, which is themed 'Skep in die taal en bewys jou cool' and features Jack Parow as the face of 'cool Afrikaans'. The 2010 awards take place in October.
