You’ve been on the South African music scene for some time now. How has the industry changed since you started out?
The industry is has always been a vibrant and exciting one. The support for the arts in general in South Africa keeps growing all the time. The corporate and public sectors alike proudly stand behind local film, music, television and theatre. I think that this growth in interest has played a significant role in the wonderful work that has been produced over the last five years. Things are happening! South Africa is winning Oscars, Grammys etc. Our people are making an impact all over the place.

What inspires you?

The good, the bad and the ugly.

When is the last time you did a gig in Europe?
Last year we did an unplugged show at Union Chapel in Islington. It was the most beautiful venue I’ve ever played at in London to date. Met lots of fun and crazy people. Loved it!

What would you like to say to your fans in the UK?
I hope the guys come out and support the Immergroen Festival. I think it’s great that a new South African festival will be born in the UK in July. Come and celebrate the summer! Forget Oppikoppi, we make our own Oppi-tjoppie! Braai the beloved country! Kom luister lekker tunes en drink warm bier uit ‘n plastiek koppie!
