ROCKING THE DAISIES

Now in its fourth year, Rocking the Daisies is one of the newer festivals on South Africa’s circuit - and it’s in an area most known for its wild flower season - held on the Cloof Wine Estate up the west coast in a little town called Darling (made famous by Peter Dirk Uys, or more affectionately known as Evita Bezuidenhout!)

Evita step aside, as Darling gets ready to be rocked by an eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival from 9-11 October. In its first year, Rocking the Daisies attracted 1,300 festival goers, which more than tripled to 5,000 in year two and then doubled to 10,000 in year three! This year there will be 12,000 tickets on sale - and SA PROMO has a pair to offer to one lucky reader!

An impressive line up includes SA’s select rock best from Prime Circle and aKING to Freshlyground, The Black Hotels, Just Jinjer and Goldfish. It’s a perfect introduction for anyone new to SA’s home grown rock scene - also including Ashtray Electric, Little Kings, Captain Stu, Gazelle, 340ml and Bed on Bricks!

But besides the bands, you will be wowed by DJs on the Red Bull Electro stage as well as comedians, art installations, interactive art fields, gourmet food, top notch facilities and earth saving green initiatives ranging from transport initiatives, solar and wind powered electricity, bio-diesel generators and LED lighting to complimentary bio-degradable soaps and shampoos, recycling and tree planting!

Spreading a message of ‘play hard, tread lightly’, the intent of Rocking the Daisies is very much a green one, collaborating with reputable green partners including the World Wildlife Fund. They wish to show how small adjustments in our everyday lives can effect sustainable change, even at a festival!

For the first time this year, Rocking the Daisies reaches Joburg – in the form of Rocking the Gardens – a one day event on 3 October 2009 to be held at Emmerentia Dam, in collaboration with Oppikoppi Productions and Old Mutual.
