Rainbow Nation doll – your keepsake from home

Now you can take your piece of South Africa into your home with your very own unique Rainbow Nation doll, made ENTIRELY in South Africa by companies employing disabled and previously disadvantaged staff.

Sporting his world-renowned Madiba shirt, the doll was conceptualised by South African entrepreneur, Penny Carrington, to epitomise the country’s culture and heritage: South Africa – Home to the Rainbow Nation™.

“Wherever I have been in my travels around the world, I have found dolls depicting different nations, and yet we have never had one to depict our wonderful Rainbow Nation, which has come so far in achieving a peaceful democracy as well as so many other objectives.

“We have a great deal to be proud of and we need to tell the world about it,” said Carrington, whose sentiments were validated by the success of the World Cup hosted by the country earlier this year.

The 21cm tall doll was launched at the end of last year and is packaged with vivid illustrations by Nelson Mandela Bay artist, Sylvia Smith.  Mention is also made of the many phenomenal factors of South Africa;  our progressive constitution, the Big Seven, Coelacanth,  Cradle of Humankind, and of course, our braais, bobotie and other ‘lekker kos’ we ‘smaak’ so much.

Carrington has added social responsibility dimensions by having the doll assembled, dressed and packed by the Algoa Bay Council for the Aged – a haven for our mainly abandoned senior citizens.  A portion of profits from the sales of Bongani is donated to the Sinethemba Care Centre for Street Children, a home founded by ex-street child Signoria Qolani, regarded by many as ‘the Mother Teresa of Nelson Mandela Bay.’
