THEO KGOSINKWE (MAFIKIOLO) I AM!
When talking about South African greatest musicians of all time it does not take you long before Mafikizolo's band is mentioned. It has been a long time since we heard the new album from Mafikizolo. Now that Nhlanhla and Theo have released their first solo album respectively. In an exclusive interview with Theo, we went to find out how life is like as a solo artist and the future of the group.
"The reception has been very great. My solo album ' I am' is doing very well, more especially on count down. It has been number one for quite some time now in the charts. As for Mafikizolo, we have realized that this band is a very big brand. People are requesting a come back because it has been long time."
"... PLAYING IN EVERY SINGLE RADIO STATION..."
The Black Record Diamond owner also revealed what's in store for this year. "This year I won't be releasing another album, but I'll be focusing on releasing another project, Afro jazz project of lady called Gugu Shezi. She's one of the first artist we have signed in our recording label".
With the Credit Crunch how is it affecting musicians?
"We are no longer selling albums as we used to. People are very cautious about buying. The sales have been affected by the global financial challenges. But not only us as well as the promoters. They are finding it hard to bring international artist because only few people turn up."
Having so much success for so many years as an artist, what is the most poignant memory of your career...? "There are plenty of highlights for me as a band Mafikizolo. But as a solo artist, just my album to be playing at every single Radio station. My album 'I am' has been my highlights of 2008".
Theo will be releasing another solo album next year and there after he will be focusing on Mafikizolo.
