You can't turn on the TV or read a newspaper at the moment without hearing about job cuts, the credit crunch and businesses closing.  In times of challenge it is easy to withdraw into our own thoughts, forget those around us and focus on our own problems.

But there are countless stories of people who have used it as an opportunity to follow their dreams.  What can you do to help you through this time?

Fill yourself with gratitude.
Take time each and every day to focus on what you are grateful for.  Your health, your children/partner, the rain or sunshine, electricity, running water, your garden, your friends - many of which you may take for granted.  No matter what your situation, there are always things to be grateful for.

The gift of giving of yourself.
Many people have found solace in contributing to others in some way.  Volunteering, sharing your experience or mentoring are just some ways to contribute.  This can alleviate the suffering of someone else, adding meaning to your life.

Ask for help when you need it.
Be open to seeking professional help.  A trained professional can provide the structure and feedback you need to
move forward.

Learn what your strengths are.
One of the advantages of going through a period of challenge is that you realize that you are a lot stronger than you probably thought you were.  And that strength stays with you, even after the crisis has passed.  What did you learn from previous difficult situations?
Challenge reminds us of how tenuous our lives on earth are.  And how grateful we can be for the simple blessings of being alive, having food on our tables and people to share that food with.
