FINDING A JOB IN RECESSION HIT BRITAIN

There is no doubt that everybody in London and indeed the UK are currently being affected in some way, by the credit crunch. Top of this list is JOBS. It is not only the city boys anymore that are being affected by this economic depression, it has filtered down in to all aspects of the job market. The current unemployment tally in the UK has just reached 2 million and doesn’t look like stopping any time soon. OVC London has seen this decline first hand.

Working alongside some of the biggest recruitment agencies in the UK over the last two years has given us a good insight in to what is happening in the market and what recruitment agencies and employers are now looking for.

So now what?

What this means is that South Africans arriving in the UK who are looking for work, now have to be better prepared than ever if they are to get their ideal job.

A few tips from OVC London

1. Have the right attitude, stay positive even at your 9th interview

2. Never arrive late for an interview and turn your phone off even if it is with the recruitment agency.

3. It is essential that your CV is up to date and prepared to a UK spec.

4. Always dress smartly Р first impressions are key

5. Do your research, make sure you know as much as possible about the company you are being interviewed by and have at least five intelligent questions to ask about the company.

6. Always phone your agency for feedback.
