Spring fashion pops with bright colours, sheer textures and feminine silhouettes. Rainbow bright shades of sunny yellow, warm coral, vermillion orange, verdant green, hibiscus red, hot pink, pungent purple and sapphire blue make their way from the runways into our closets, as we witness a flashback to the 80s!

With winter finally behind us and the sun filtering its way back into our lives, it time to put the gloom and doom to rest! Spring and summer evoke a sense of freshness and new beginnings, with sprouting shoots and blossoming flowers that inspire designers to breakout of the winter doldrums – and this summer predicts loads of glow and sunshine!

It’s all about deep, vivid colours that haven’t been around since the 80s, when glam rock reared its punky head. Bright colours return to the catwalks and high streets as designers incorporate vibrance into their collections, yet temper the vibrancy with deeper, translucent or neutral tones. Fashion designers the world over encourage hopeful attitudes with lively colour, while sophisticated, grounded hues address the need for stability in times of economic uncertainty.

Be sure grab some colourful pieces now while the getting is good because even though bright hues are the rage of the moment, you’ll be able to keep them in your wardrobe long after the mayhem dies down. And it’s always stylish to mix electric colour with understated pieces like black jeans or denim, but you can also wear saturated hues together with fashion-forward results.

I recommend you ease into the colour trend by wearing one bright piece as an accent feature to an outfit, for example:

* Wear brightly coloured opaque stockings with a black or charcoal grey skirt or dress and finish off the look with a pair of peep toe shoe-booties.
* Pair a solid coloured blouse or wrap top with a neutral pencil skirt, flare skirt or peg-leg trouser. Try red, cobalt blue, coral, lilac or chartreuse on the top and white, grey or black on your lower half, for a classic, yet edgy look for work.
* Make your outfit pop with colourful accessories by cinching a little black dress with a cheery yellow or nearly neon orange belt and finish it off with matching peep-toe pumps.
* Be sure to counterbalance colourful prints – especially psychedelic ones – with neutral solids.

For the bold and daring fashionistas out there, you too can stand out this spring/summer by wearing vibrant shades from head to toe:

* Wear a solid-coloured sheath dress belted with a contrasting or black sash, or play with the color wheel and bring together separates in similar colours.
* Jump in with both feet by wearing large blocks of contrasting colours: red and green, blue and yellow, purple and orange – and you're bound to turn some heads. (All that's required to pull this off is a healthy helping of confidence.)
* To really work this trend to the max, select highly saturated colors, since there's no room for shrinking violets in this style.

Avoid looking too busy by keeping your makeup simple. Either go for a nude lip and dramatic eyes, or a bright crimson, orange-red, or fuchsia lip. This is the best time to let your manicure shine with bright hues of orange, yellow, and even green.
