Published Date
25 March 2010

Five thousand low income workers in the hospitality and tourism industries are in for some special treatment thanks to the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The workers will learn how a debit card can improve their quality of life, and will receive free World Cup tickets.

World Cup partner company, Visa, today launched the Visa Ticket Fund, which will distribute free World Cup tickets through a financial literacy road show program that is currently rolling out across South Africa.

The roadshow uses a soccer theme and Africa's strong oral tradition of story-telling to help the audience learn the fundamentals of responsible spending, budgeting and saving. The show explains in simple terms how to apply for and use a debit card. The story is told with lots of South African flavour and big helpings of humour.
