Justice triumphed in South Africa on 3 August 2010 as former police chief and head of Interpol, Jackie Selebi was sentenced to 15 years for graft in what is arguably the highest fall from political heights the country has ever seen.
The Johannesburg High Court was abuzz as high profile and ordinary citizens visited the court to watch the sentencing of the 60 year old former top cop.
It was an important day for the justice system and the independence of the judiciary, which has been under scrutiny in recent years because of the perception of South Africa not adequately dealing with the problem of corruption amongst politicians and party officials.
Jackie Selebi, a long-standing star in the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party and a close ally of former President Thabo Mbeki, was found guilty last month of receiving bribes from drug lord Glen Agliotti, whose case is also being heard in the same court.
