Late penalty wins it for Sharks

When Ruan Pienaar is hot, he is very hot, and he proved it with an outstanding all-round performance to drive an exciting 29-26 win for the Sharks over the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday.

There would have been hearts in the mouths in both teams when the Sharks were awarded a penalty near the halfway line in the final minute. It was going to be the last act of the game, the scores were level at 26-all, it was up to Pienaar to win the game for the Sharks and make it two wins on the bounce in New Zealand for the Durban team.

There have often been questions asked of Pienaar’s temperament, and rightly so, but frequently he has proved that he can land the pressure kicks, such as the conversion from the touchline that won the Sharks a crucial game against the Crusaders in 2007.
