Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel are two of South Africa’s most celebrated and prolific live rock ‘n roll bands. They are making their way to the Clapham Grand in London on 27 May to blow UK audiences away with the most riveting live experience yet to reach this stage.
Van Coke Kartel has won the award for Best Live Act at the MK Awards this year and Fokofpolisiekar has been named Best Live Local Band on numerous occasions. Between these two bands, they have won every notable award in South Africa and both have been dominating the media with extensive airplay and coverage on every platform. It is plain to see that Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel bring you a live experience that cannot be missed and can never be forgotten.
Currently one of SA’s most popular rock acts, Fokofpolisiekar has become known for their explosive live performances and raw on-stage energy. They have headlined at every major festival in South Africa and have shared a stage with the likes of Metallica and Violent Femmes. They have played at the PukkelPop Festival in Belgium 2004 and have toured Europe in 2005 and 2006.
Fokofpolisiekar was formed in 2003 and in the eight years since their inception, they have reached cult status in their home country. Fokofpolisiekar has, however, garnered accolades from the Afrikaans literary community for the powerful conveyance of their intelligent, poetic and honest-to-the-bone lyrics. Their continued success and ever-growing popularity which transcends class, age and race bears testimony to their artistic substance and social impact – and to being far more than just an outrageous name.
