BBC Sport reported that South Africa is the top choice to stage the IPL tournament. Indian Premier League Chairman Lalit Modi wants SA to stage the tournament due to security fears in India. England was early frontrunner but Modi will visit South Africa and England in the next 24 hours and evaluate potential of both countries being host.

South Africa are in pole position to stage the lucrative Twenty20 competition, which is due to start in only 18 days.  It will run from 10 April to 24 May, featuring 59 matches, 12 teams and players from a host of countries.
Both countries have the advantage of large South Asian communities (2.4m South Asians in the UK, 1.2m South Asians in South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India now have to asses requirements and both South Africa and England will move heaven and earth to make this work.
One of the big deciding factors will be the weather. The average rainfall in Cape Town is significantly less than that of England during April and England temperature is also much lower.
