Standard Bank declares WAR ON WASTE for greater good
Standard Bank today launched a major recycling initiative. The bank joined pulp and paper company Sappi’s War on Waste (WOW) recycling programme, which was launched as part of the Innibos Green Ambassador initiative. Standard Bank is committed to reduce its environmental footprint, and as a major consumer of paper, is implementing this paper recycling programme at its branches in Mpumalanga. “I will be happy to see this programme rolled out to all of Standard Bank branches across South Africa” says Provincial Director PJ van der Walt.
The proceeds from Standard Bank’s WOW will be donated to community projects of the branch’s choice. In this way Standard bank will not only be making a positive environmental impact, but will also be assisting communities in need.
Sappi’s WOW programme is not only aimed at corporates, but at the community at large. The company has especially designed litter bins, office paper recycling bins and recycling stands to aid communities and corporates to recycle. Recycling is an important aspect of Sappi’s global commitment to sustainability and we encourage you to think differently about waste. Join us in our efforts to protect our planet’s resources – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle” says Sappi’s Group Head Corporate Affairs, Andre Oberholzer.
Fully committed to the sustainability of the planet, Innibos spokes person Sandra Jacobs says, “Innibos creates an exciting platform to elevate and lobby environmental sustainability. We believe that our efforts to host an environmentally friendly arts festival will encourage our patrons to consider the environment in their every day activities. And it is our hope that Innibos will inspire people to leave a green rather than a carbon footprint. To this end Innibos is teaming up with environmentally responsible partners such as Sappi, to help create awareness around important environmental issues such as recycling. We hope that every visitor to Innibos 2009 will participate in making our planet greener, safer, and more sustainable.”
