It is March already, two months into the year and the culimination of the movie season around the world! We've had the British BAFTAs and the South African SAFTAs, as well as the American Golden Globes amongst many other variations of awards. But now the one everyone has been waiting for, the coveted gold statue known as 'Oscar', as tonight 7 March the Academy Awards will reveal whether South African will reign supreme on the mantel piece.

Will District 9 deliver the goods? Is the sweetie man and Neill Blomkamp's set of sci-fi creatures going to claim a statue?

And of course, all eyes will be on Morgan Freeman when best actor gets called. Will his portrayal of Mandela be deemed worthy of an Oscar? A great performance indeed. And of course the Francois Pienaar portrayal by Matt Damon is also up for an Oscar in the supporting actor role.
