The yellow and green official World Cup mascot turns 16 today, coinciding with the public holiday in South Africa for Youth Day. His name is Zakumi and he is a leopard with green hair.

The name Zakumi comes from ZA for South Africa and 'kumi' meaning ten in several African languages. The character was created by Capetonion Andries Odendaal and was first presented to the world on 22 September 2008. Zakumi's birthday also coincides with the South Africa v Uruguay match tonight.
