Zuma in Belgium for SA EU Summit

President Jacob Zuma is in Brussels for the SA-EU Summit, taking place today, 28 September. It is followed by an official visit to Belgium tomorrow.

According to EU officials, this third SA-EU Summit will provide an opportunity to strengthen the strategic dialogue between the EU and South Africa and to discuss a number of issues, in particular global governance, climate change, trade, development issues, the Joint Africa-EU strategy, the SA-EU strategic partnership and peace and security in Africa.

President Zuma is accompanied by the Ministers of International Relations and Co-operation, Basic Education, Science and Technology, Trade and Industry, Defence, Home Affairs as well as Water and Environmental Affairs.

Belgium remains among South Africa’s top ten trading partners and is the eighth fastest growing export destination. The European Union is the number one destination for South African exports and Belgian ports remain an important entry point for South African exports to countries both within and outside of the EU.
