President Jacob Zuma arrived back to South Africa last week after a three-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where he shared international priorities with his British counterpart, Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and reached agreement on a number of bilateral issues.
Among the agreements reached with Brown was a memorandum of understanding, committing the UK to providing £67 million to help the southen African region improve transport infrastructure in eight countries. This will support Africa's efforts to increase trade and develop economically in order to grow out of poverty.
They also discussed climate change, nuclear weapons, education and HIV/Aids.
