Everything about this album is clever in an articulate sense of the word. Creatively manufactured pop by the name of Lavuvuzela, in line with the zeitgeist and subtely indicative of where these lasses hail from.
To the rest of the world who don’t yet know that a vuvuzela is the plastic trumpet blown at soccer games in South Africa, they surely will in a few months times! Until then, the name sounds effortlessly Spanish or perhaps pertaining a French flair, giving it continental kudos to enter European charts.
Title track ‘In Stereo’ is Lady Gaga all the way. It’s done that way on purpose. And it works. You can almost hear the poker face beat trying to break free. The video for ‘Be Mine Tonight’ has been aired on MTV SA since January and was in the Nokia Top 40 chart in SA for 10 weeks. It is a catchy dance pop song with sexy synthed vocals and Britney-style spoken word in a husky tone over the top of the song!
There is lots of Lady Gaga, Britney and Pussy Cat Doll energy in the album, but what is great is how they achieve such a range of energy and emotion in their tracks. The album sounds professional, with slick international production. With ‘5 more minutes’ released in time for Valentine's Day, and another track entitled ‘Play to win’ lined up for the World Cup, it seems each song will crack the annual trends as they come and go! And these girls have got the looks, attitude and sex appeal to play in the international arena of girl groups.
This all girl group from Cape Town only started in September in 2009, but they’ve been catapulted into the pop beat collective, destined to bounce into our brains and onto dance floors soon!
