Their 5th album, Grace, has been nominated for a Best Traditional World Music accolade.
The choir’s leader, Shimmy Jiyane, says she is thrilled to receive news of the choir’s fourth Grammy nomination in five years. “Each time we receive a nomination it is as exciting as if it’s the first time, and we are very proud to wave the South African flag at the Grammy Awards!"
The choir's collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, 'Baba Yetu', is also nominated for an arranger’s award in the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s).
Established eight years ago, the choir has received numerous awards. In 2007 they did South Africa proud by winning a Grammy award for their Blessed album , and in 2008 they received another Grammy for their acclaimed disk, African Spirit.
In 2008 the choir collaborated with international singer, musician and recording artist Peter Gabriel on the track “Down to Earth” from the film 'Wall-E', which won a Grammy for Best Song in a Movie.
