The South African National under 23 soccer team, Amaglug-glug, will this afternoon play against neighbouring Botswana in preparations for the 2011 All Africa Games and the 2012 Olympics.
The 2011 All Africa Games will be staged in Maputo, Mozambique while the 2012 Olympics are scheduled to take place in London. The test game takes place in Botswana.
"This is the beginning of a road map that we call 'Road to London'. We will have more camps like these going forward as we prepare for the All Africa Games next year and of course the Olympics the year in 2012.
"We have tried to get many of the players who participated in the 2009 Under 20 FIFA World Cup in Egypt last year. This is part of our succession plan to address the issue of continuity in our national teams, but that does not mean that they are guaranteed a place in the team, everybody has to work hard and fight for their places. Also, our doors are not closed to other players who can add value to the team," he said.
