Barbarians Re-Appoint Winning Formula

The Barbarians have announced earlier this month, once again, former South African coaches Nick Mallett and Alan Solomons will take charge of the Barbarian squad's preparation for the end of tour MasterCard Trophy fixture against South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday 4th December 2010 – 2.30pm kick off.

The duo guided the Barbarians to a memorable 25-18 victory against the All Blacks in front of a 65,000 crowd back in December 2009 and was the Baa-Baas’ first taste of victory against New Zealand since the famous match of 1973.

Springbok flyer, Bryan Habana, was in scintillating form that day finishing off a hat-trick of tries for the Barbarians, but this time round he will be representing the World Champions who will no doubt want to avenge their 22-5 defeat by the Barbarians at Twickenham in 2007.

Not only have both Nick and Alan had success coaching the Barbarians, but also had prior experience of coaching unbeaten Springbok sides and their inside knowledge of South African rugby could prove invaluable again.

Nick commented on his appointment, “It is a wonderful experience not only as a player, but as a coach to be involved with the World’s greatest club - The Barbarians. So, to be invited back again with Alan, it is an absolute pleasure.” Nick continued,
“We will look forward to assembling an outstanding squad full of leading high profile international stars from around the globe again, for what promises to be yet another mouth-watering match and finish to the Autumn International fixtures.”
