Apple crumble is a well-balanced dessert with just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. It can be enjoyed with a warm custard, a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh cream.
Ingredients
For the topping
- 1 cup cake flour
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup toasted oats
- handful of pecan/almond nuts chopped
- 2/3 cup cold butter
For the filling
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 5 red or granny smith apples, cubed
Method
Start with preheating your oven to 180°C. Add your filling ingredients to a bowl and toss together. Empty into a greased baking dish. To make the topping, mix the dry ingredients together and rub in the butter until it forms a crumble. Place over the apples and bake for 35 minutes. Serve with cream, ice cream or custard.
