If you are craving ‘hot-out-the-oven’ scones, lathered with thick butter, strawberry jam and a dollop of fresh cream – then you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a recipe that’s easy to make and will fulfil that craving in less than an hour.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup white sugar
- 5 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup butter
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup milk

Method:
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a baking tray and set aside. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter.
In small bowl mix the egg and milk, then stir into the flour mixture until combined. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes. Roll the dough out into a 1/2 inch thick round and cut into 8 pieces.
Roll into the shape of a scone and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.Serve with butter, strawberry jam and fresh cream.
For a cheese variant, add one cup of cheese to the mixture.
