Macaroni and cheese is a quick and simple recipe that delivers on flavour every time. It’s a firm favourite for the children and takes less than 20 minutes to whip up. For variations you can add chicken , bacon or a meat alternative.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup flour
- salt to taste
- pinch of black pepper
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Method
Boil the macaroni for 10 minutes in salted water until firm. Drain and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter over a medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a roux. Let it cook for three minutes, stirring often so it doesn’t burn. Pour the milk into the roux, continuously stirring until the mixture is smooth and bubbling.
Add salt and pepper to taste. Lastly, add the cheese and stir until the cheese is melted completely. Fold the drained macaroni into cheese sauce until coated. Separately, fry up some bacon and sprinkle on the top of the mac and cheese for extra flavour.
Best served hot! Enjoy.
