We sat on the upper level of this restaurant with its 100 people seating capacity and warm and friendly Portuguese decor. It has been a few years since I have eaten in an authentic Portuguese restaurant and realised that I could not expect the real Lisbon atmosphere I’d once experienced, but I hoped I would fi nd something familiar and also still be able to recommend a dish or two for my wife.
After paging through the menu I found the Portuguese food in the second half of the menu, the first being a selection of sushi. My choice for starters was baby squid tubes and the ‘Casal Garcia’ – the Portuguese wine to complement the starter.
The main course that my wife decided on was fillet steak, cooked the Portuguese way. As I expected she was speechless. On the side we had the Portuguese salad, which was extremely crisp and fresh.
Prawns, which one can get in any restaurant, were not an option for me that night. My choice was a fish speciality, typical Portuguese cuisine that I have always enjoyed! Its called the ‘Bacalhau A Braz’ which is salted dried cod prepared in one of the 300 recipes available. It was delicious. We rounded the evening off with a nice cup of coffee.
