There are many ways in which we can and should protect ourselves from harm which doesn’t always need to involve someone else inflicting pain. Sometimes we might not know that we aren’t protecting our mental and physical health through the habits we have formed over time but it’s never too late to make some changes to take better care of our brain.
As we grow older it is natural for our brain to shrink, that is, we begin to lose bits of our memory. This occurs in the part of the brain called the hippocampus is where a large number of our memories are stored.
It is here where we will also start to discover signs of dementia which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. But, how do we prevent our brain from deteriorating too early and how can we slow it down?
So, there are a good number of things that can affect the functionality of our brains. The most obvious is high blood pressure or better known as hypertension.
When you have high blood pressure, what happens is that the arteries or blood vessels tend to narrow, and the narrower your blood vessels the more tension there is, and the more tension there is, the harder it is for blood to get through to every part of the body.
As we know, it is essential that the blood flow is doing its thing because if it isn’t, our bodies are unable to function in the way that they should. Now let’s take a look at what you can do to have a healthy brain.
How to take care of your brain:
Manage your diet
What we eat plays a big role in how our body functions and eating the right foods will stimulate the brains activity and productivity. Similarly, if we eat foods that are not good for our health, productivity will evidently decrease.
Limit how much you sit
It is essential to take breaks from your desk. This is because It is naturally more difficult to form new memories when you sit down and sitting for long periods of time will prevent just that. So make sure you take breaks from any activity that requires you to sit down for large amounts of time.
Be mindful to your brain
Be mindful when it comes to things such as your mental health. Taking the time to really avoid stressful situations can do wonders for your body. Stress is toxic to the brain which causes many of the bodily functions and mental functions to reduce productivity and natural abilities.
Physical activity
Working out not only increases your life span but also prevents you from diseases such as cardiovascular disease. Moreover, working out increases cognitive activity. The more physical activity one has the better the cognitive activity and mental functions can be.
Have a good sleep schedule
Sleeping allows you to clear your mind from unnecessary information and when we do not get enough sleep our minds are unable to function properly. Getting at least four to five hours of sleep is essential to have the brain function properly. At the same time, you will also reduce the amount of anxiety you may have.
