South Africans work according to their very own calendar – so if we say it’s Spring Day, then it’s official. In reality, Spring is actually on the 22 September – but that’s just semantics.
In true South African flair, Spring showed up and showed off in Johannesburg just one week after a severe cold front swept over the province. Temperatures will reach up to 26°C on Tuesday and by the weekend locals can expect a proper welcome to the warmer months when it shoots up to 28°C.
Durban and Cape Town on the other hand are still in the throes of winter. It is raining in Durban today but by Friday temperatures should increase to 30°C – followed by some rain forecast for the rest of next week.
Cape Town is late to the Spring party – there is still snow on mountain tops and temperatures peaked at 16°C today – with no real warm weather in sight for the next 10 days.
Nothing stopped the Spring Day hype – hot or not – South Africans showed up.
