South Africa’s longest running music festival is back with a bang, and ticket sales for Splashy Fen go on sale on Wednesday, 20 October. Like many other music and lifestyle festivals in 2020 and 2021, Splashy Fen had to to cancel their events due to the global pandemic. This is why 2022 will be particularly special for the long-standing music event.
Splashy Fen will be hosted in Drakensberg from the 14 – 18 April 2022 – and promises to be ‘filled with energy, emotion and good times. Times where we connect as human beings again, times where we smile together, times where we learn to hug and shake hangs again’.
Strict COVID-19 protocols will be in place during the five-day event and organisers are encouraging party-goes to get vaccinated ahead of the festival.
In a post on their Facebook page: “Lets Get #VACTogether is a movement initiated by the live entertainment industry that seeks to educate and expose fans of music concerts, festivals, night clubs and live sporting experiences on what the likely ‘return to play’ will look like. This is not about forcing you to do anything, it’s about helping you to best inform yourself of what a return to your favourite live event will look like, so that you can make the best decision for yourself. Festivals and concerts across Europe are open to hundreds of thousands of fans, and we all want to get back to that soon too. Check out www.vactogether.co.za for more info.”
According to their website, the festival started in 1990 after a night of red wine around a fire when Peter Ferraz and Bart Fokkens decided that the farm Splashy Fen was a perfect location for a music gathering. Expecting only a hundred or so fans, the inaugural festival attracted some 400 musicians and festival goers, and by 1995, had become the biggest music festival in the country.
Since then it has grown exponentially and over the years the festival has had in excess of 150 000 people through its gates.
