420 is a rather strange way to describe a day to celebrate something. To the weed smokers, this day allows them to perform their smoking rituals as a former group once did.
The history behind 420 day
According to iNews, sometime in the 1970s, a group of high school kids would remind one another to meet at 4:20 pm to have marijuana together.
Thereafter, the group quickly decided that they will dub their meet-up 420. Since then, people all over the world have come to celebrate 20th April as a day for weed smokers.
Thus far, weed is not legal in many countries and that goes for South Africa as well. In the United Kingdom, if you’re caught with marijuana then you would have to pay a fine and serve a five-year jail sentence.

If you’re caught dispersing the products then will face up to 14 years in prison. So far, neither sounds appealing and who would want to get caught.
Regardless of all the restrictions around smoking weed, a large group of people still remain to use the drug. Of course, that is why the day remains celebrated every year.
