Barbados has quite frankly made history a few days ago. It is now known as the world’s newest republic and free from its colonial ties.
According to a study conducted in 2020, many people have come to dislike the queen in Barbados. This would be where the queen has reigned all these years. To be exact, the British empire has reigned over Barbados for 396 years.
During the handover ceremony, the singer, Rihanna, and Prince Charles were in attendance.
Barbados cuts ties with British Queen
As the clock struck 12, the royal flag representing the queen was lowered to signify the end of Barbados’ ties with their colonial past. While the British were in power, their dominion over the country has undermined the nationality of the people from which they are very happy to be free.
During this time, Carol Roberts-Reifer, the Chief executive officer of the National Cultural Foundation, made the declaration of Barbados’ transition to its new constitutional status.
Guests in the square applauded as Dame Sandra Mason was sworn in as president by the chief justice and took the oath of allegiance to her country.
It was amid the killing of George Floyd that Barbados flagged a breakaway from the queen as white supremacy and racism had once again made their way to undermine people of color.
Rihanna has also been called to the stage during the public ceremony to be declared a national treasure. Among other things, Prince Charles took to the stage to talk about how appalling the slave trade was.
