Deltacron is beginning to rise in Cyprus. So far, 25 cases have occurred. These cases are related to patients who are hospitalized and not those who haven’t been hospitalized.
Patients who have contracted the virus or have tested positive for the coronavirus are more prone to have the Deltacron variant among others. Not much is known about the variant at this time as it is still under study.
Over the weekend, a researcher in Cyprus had reportedly discovered a new variant that consists of both the Omicron variant as well as the Delta variant. Some think this might be a result of lab contamination.
Deltacron Does Not Exist
By the looks of it, this variant apparently does not exist as a WHO Covid expert took to Twitter to explain why the variant does not exist. According to Dr. Krutika Kuppalli, Flurona as well as Deltacron does not exist.
She adds that this can be due to lab contamination and that Omicron and Delta did not form a super variant.
“This is likely due to sequencing artifact (lab contamination of Omicron fragments in a Delta specimen)”
