Lovely – the corrupt party that will enrich their friends and embrace corruption to the detriment of the masses continues to get support from the unenlightened majority. But at least there are some rays of hope. In the Western Cape the Democratic Alliance will enlarge its majority and in the Eastern Cape the DA will become the official opposition. The party of Helen Zille now has more fire-power to show us how they can govern and how they can govern more efficiently in the Western Cape. They will also have to up their game as an opposition party.
The Nkandla scandal did not seem to have a major effect on the outcome of the election results. That in itself is scary because it says that something is seriously wrong with the average voter’s ability to analyze contemporary events and exercise a democratic right to demand a stance against corruption.
The most important take-out from the early results is that SA desperately needs a united opposition. Too many votes are wasted on Mickey Mouse parties.
