Who says nothing ever happens in Springbok? On Tuesday, 6 July an earthquake shook nearby the Northern Cape town in the early hours of the morning.
Not much has been reported about the earthquake, needless to say there was no damage reported. South Africa’s Council for Geoscience (CGS) reported that an earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.2, occurred 42km southeast of Springbok in South Africa.
“The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicentre near Springbok, Namakwa District Municipality, Northern Cape, South Africa, early morning on Tuesday 6 July 2021 at 1:39 am local time,” said CGS.
According to preliminary seismic data, the quake didn’t cause any significant damage, but was probably felt as light vibration in the area of the epicentre.
The last earthquake was recorded near Pietermartizburg on June 17 at 4am. There was no damage caused by that tremor either but many living in Durban said they felt the quake rattle their houses for a minute before it stopped.
