Everywhere you go you also can’t escape the pervasive story about the credit crunch and global crisis. If it’s not the TV blabbing about economic recession, then it’s probably your friend or colleague moaning about money.
Says Donna McCallum, “My concern as a Fairy Godmother around this ‘recession’ mentality is that stories of economic crisis are disempowering, negative stories that increase personal stress, anxiety and fear, and decrease your ability to be empowered and manifest and create your dream life.”
Deep inside we all want to live an incredible, exciting and happy life where we get to pursue our passions and still pay the bills. So how do you refresh, rejuvenate and re-energise your life to ensure 2009 is your best year yet?
Consider what you really want
One of the master manifestors of our era, the goddess of pop, Madonna, put it perfectly when she said, ‘A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want’.
Take some time to spend 30 minutes in the park writing a list of the things you want. This process will lead you to develop some dreams and goals that begin to give meaning and direction to your life. During this exercise really concentrate on the things you want rather than those you don’t want. Even if you have some silly, wild or whacky ideas, write them down.
Dream BIG
You see things and ask why, I see things that never were, and ask why not? George Bernard Shaw
Flex your dream muscles to create the most exciting and daring possibilities for your life. Don’t focus on setting achievable goals, allow yourself to dream big and create adrenaline-pumping goals that light up your mind and ignite your soul!
Create an empowering story
Harvard Business School did a study 13 years ago, where they found that people who were able to describe their goals in graphic detail were the ones who reached them.
Visualise a sensory story around the ‘outcome’ of your goal _ an experience that you would be having in the future where you know your goal had been achieved. You may want to close your eyes first and imagine it and thereafter write the little ‘my goal has come true’ story _ what you would be seeing, hearing, feeling and experiencing if your goal was a reality. Then every morning for the next 30 days for five minutes, close your eyes and imagine this story with all five of your senses.
Create your own view on the world, your own story. Do not let the world and the media create and dictate the story of your life. Says Donna, “In my story, I inspire millions of people around the world, I travel to amazing places, I laugh a lot, I wear fairy wings and wave a wand. It was a story I created, but I am now living the reality of this created story. You can do it too!”
Declare your dream
Declare your dream or goal to a few key supporters in your life _ they will be able to remind you of the dream and encourage you when you go through periods of doubt. Also when you declare the dream to others, this makes you accountable to start doing it.
Take small daily actions
Every morning at the top of your to do list write your dream/goal and then have two small actions that you can take to further the goal _ as simple as a phone call or sending an email. Do these actions first before anything else in the day. By the end of the year you will have taken over 700 small actions to reach your goals! You will be amazed at what happens as a result. Imagine if you had started this at the beginning of 2009 – you would have already had over 300 little actions towards your goal!
