Initially this video appeared on the Sandton Chronicle’s website saying it’s a Johannesburg resident defending himself from a potential hijacking. Unless, of course, all of Gauteng has taken to driving left hand vehicles. The are various posts on Facebook with this video some saying it’s in America but most claim it was in Brazil.
Yet, it could easily have been in SA where car-jackings at private homes happen regularly.
In the video the victim is seen driving into his garage. As the garage door closes, one of the suspects creeps in. While he is approaching the passenger door, the victim fires at the suspects. The suspects apparently returned fire as they were running away. It has not been reported if there were any injuries.
In a more authentic SA video published here earlier CCTV footage emerged showing a woman, Driekie Croucamp of Port Elizabeth, firing shots at house robbery suspects.
What is interesting about this video is that the man who posted the Port Elizabeth video on YouTube, Craven Coetzee, actually comments on it.
He says: “I was the guy in Port Elizabeth who is mentioned in the Sandton Chronicle article – I also uploaded CCTV footage a week ago where my girlfriend opened fire on three guys in our home – I am happy for the home-owner and his wife. I just hope this CCTV footage serves to protect, rather than convict them. South African law favours the criminal rather than the victims.”
UPDATE: (thanks to a Facebook reader this is the full story translated from a Brazilian newspaper)
