The plan concocted by the Guptas was to use SA government contracts to rake in R1 billion a year, says City Press in an exclusive report. According to the Sunday rag the idea was to secure lucrative government contracts in all provinces, where the SA government would pay R950 per patient treated.
The contracts would have been given to the Gupta-linked Mediosa company. They would then take R650 of every R950 paid and funnel it into the family’s accounts in Dubai to build the private clinic.
BusinessTech reports Mediosa already has two contracts with the government in the Free State and North West, which were awarded without a tender process. It was in the process of targeting other provinces as well, with the plan to have contracts in place worth R950 million a year.
City Press says the Hawks and other government departments are investigating the scam.
