Online reports and a report in the Sunday Times in South Africa suggest police investigating the axe killings of a Stellenbosch family are expected to seek the medical records of the 20-year-old surviving son, Henri van Breda, to establish if rumours are true that he is suffering form a tik addiction. A newspaper report states as a fact that a man called Mark claims to have been Henri’s drug runner. He said Henri was a regular customer.
The newspaper quote sources “close to the investigation” said the police will subpoena Henri’s medical records to prove drug addiction. It is also suggested Henri spent time at a drug rehabilitation centre in Cape Town last year.
It has already been reported that Henri made the emergency call to ambulance services at least four hours after the attack. A separate report also claims his wounds
The bodies of Martin, 54, and Teresa, 55, van Breda and their eldest sonRudi, 22, were discovered in their home at the exclusive De Zalze golf estate in Stellenbosch two weeks ago. They had been hacked to death with an axe.
Henri had minor injuries and their daughter, Marli, 16, was hospitalised with serious injuries to her head. She remains in hospital under police guard.
