Life without Woolworths, the Survival Guide

So you are serious about not supporting companies that advertise and employ without taking equality into account? Check! Well, in the case of the poor old South African Airways (SAA) there are many other airlines out there that are so much better – and cheaper. You don't even have to shop around, you can merely laugh and move on. Well, it's almost same with Woolies.

Life without Woolworths, the Survival Guide

But what should the criteria be? First of all make sure you support companies that employ people equally, without specifying in their job advertisement that only black, Indian, coloured, white, pink or purple need apply. No matter what the Employment Equity Act states, companies can comply with it without being blatantly racist by not even allowing white people to apply.

A few tips, the SURVIVAL GUIDE:

  1. Get your veggies & fruit from markets (with less than 50 people and who employ fairly). Don’t discriminate. Follow the best service and the best price no matter the race of the owner or the person behind the counter.
  2. Go support the local butcher (with less than 50 people and who employ fairly and again, no matter the race of the owner and managers). Tell them you will support him or her in future and ask for discount after consistently buying there and you will be suprised how awesome it is to get ot know your butcher..
  3. Support the smaller grocer. There are still many out there. It’s more fun and more personal. Also take friends and buy in bulk to bargain for discount. Make sure the grocer adheres to good employment rules and are not racist in any way and again, don’t discriminate.
  4. Buy local clothes. There are many around. Find the ones near you or buy online. Find your own supplier and at least you won’t look like all the other Woolies suckers out on the street who all wear the same old stuff. Find your clothing supplier and find your identity.

Most of all SUPPORT those companies who employ based on your skills and qualifications and not your skin colour. You have the buying power. Don’t spend your bucks like sheep, spend it wisely and change your country with your wallet and your feet. Make a difference today for a better tomorrow for all!
