LinkedIn is best known to connect people in the corporate world for both employers and employees alike. But has now come to find that over 70 000 companies have had fake profiles created for their business.

LinkedIn found approximately 1000 fake profiles

Right now, LinkedIn is planning on eradicating all fake profiles that are currently on their platform. According to LinkedIn, it is not allowed to use any fake images or pictures that are not of your likeness. Now, they are actively working on eradicating the profiles.

In the past and present, platforms like Facebook have also dealt with fake profiles. Now it seems LinkedIn now has to do away with fake profiles. As it continues to make its way on the platform. According to Tech Radar, some companies are actually unaware of this practice taking place.

Creating a buzz around companies

One company shared that they have hired a few sales and marketing staff who may create these fake profiles at their own discretion. Well, what these fake profiles do on LinkedIn is creating a buzz around the company.

Like Twitter, are a large number of fake profiles are created to create a buzz. That is, around one topic of discussion. As reported by the Silicon Republic, China and Russia have been found to use this tactic to spread fake news among other things.

While investigating the different profiles, LinkedIn found that these profiles will use AI to autogenerate profile pictures. The unnatural placement of the eyes was one of the things that they noticed and has since come up as a very big problem.

Right now, the platform is only encouraging real connections and real profiles and does not condone the use of fake profiles on the platform. This means companies need to employ staff to do the actual work. Surely won’t be hard, will it?
