Madeleine McCann would have been 19-years-old this year and the police still haven’t found any concrete evidence that she is alive or dead. Some authorities have claimed that Madeleine might be dead.
Thus far, Madeleine McCann’s parents have not given up hope that they would find their daughter alive and well. While there is a good possibility for this, Kate and Gregg have remained very realistic about the outcome of the investigation.
3rd May 2007 – The day of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance
As previous reports have stated, Madeleine McCann, her parents, and two siblings were on vacation in Portugal Praia Da Luz. Her parents brought along some friends with their children as well.
At approximately 8 pm that day, Madeleine’s parents went to have supper with a group of friends and would occasionally check on their children.
The parents do occasional check-ups on their children
Before leaving them at the rental, both Kate and Gregg made sure their children were settled and left the door ajar. At 9:05 pm Gregg went back to the rental. He saw that things were still okay and the children were sound asleep.
The second check-up was made by a friend who had to check on his children and offered to check on theirs as well. He came back and relayed that everything was okay.
10 pm – Madeleine McCann goes missing and an alarm is sounded
By the time Kate went back to check on the kids at 10 pm, everything was very unsettled. As she noticed that the door was no longer ajar but quite open. When she attempted to close the door, it shut by a harsh wind.
Kate then noticed that the window in the room was open and that the shutters that were closed were lifted. It is at this point that Kate realized that her daughter was missing.
At the time, a friend alleged that she saw a man carrying a little girl at the resort. It was confirmed afterward that it was an innocent man carrying his sleeping daughter.
March 2008 – Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Greggare no longer persons of interest in the case
At the time of their daughter’s disappearance, several publications had accused the distressed parents that they had something to do with the disappearance of their daughter.
The Daily Express gave Kate and Gregg a front-page apology detailing their regret in making allegations that were not grounded. The parents were simultaneously given $550 000 in compensation for the trouble caused.
2017 – ten years go by without anything productive in the Grange investigation
The McCanns are still hopeful that their daughter is alive but a prosecutor sends a letter to the parents stating that he has evidence that their daughter is dead. He claimed that he cannot share any of the details as it would compromise the investigation.
2018 – 2019 – More funding approved and a Netflix documentary is released on Madeleine McCann
While no progress was made in finding Madeleine McCann, the investigation is funded for a further 6 months. The initial 29 police workers on the case had also been reduced to four.
Another year later, a Netflix documentary is released on the disappearance of Madeleine. Gregg and Kate, however, refused to be a part of the documentary as it would affect the investigation and prevent people from taking them seriously.
2020 – A suspect is found relating to Madeleine McCann
In 2020, new information emerges on a suspect that could have been involved in the case. The suspect was reported to have been around Praia Da Luz at the time of her disappearance.
Reports also show that the 43-year-old man had a thirty-minute conversation over the phone. The person on the receiving end was also noted as a key witness.
Additionally, the suspect was also doing time for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same vicinity in Portugal. Other reports have also come up that the convicted has previously worked at Praia Da Luz.

The suspect had also confessed to a man in a bar that he had something to do with Madeleine’s disappearance and showed the man a video of himself raping an old woman. The informant immediately went to the police.
2022 – Funds dry up in the Grange Investigation
Today, the grange investigation is proven to be unsuccessful and the case is expected to go cold by August this year. As funds continue to dry up, Madeleine’s parents will seek private funding to continue the investigation.
Right now, much of the investigation has remained private and there are claims that the investigation did not explore every avenue as the police had treated it as a missing person case.
