Netflix announced earlier this year that they will be contributing R5 million to black creatives in the film industry.
As of 16 September 2021, Netflix announced that it will be committing to contributing R5 million to black creatives in South Africa. This comes as creatives in the film industry took the hardest during the coronavirus pandemic.
The aim of this contribution will be to support those students in need and those who qualify for the scholarship at supporting Universities in South Africa.

The Netflix Black Creatives Empowerment Fund will be split for two causes. The first is a 1.4 million grant in benefit for The Independent Black Filmmakers Collective and the second is a 4.4 million rand designated towards fully-funded scholarships and student debt relief at higher education institutions in South Africa.
Institutions, where qualifying students will be able to apply, include the University of Cape Town, the University of Witwatersrand, the University of Johannesburg, the University of Pretoria, the University of Kwazulu-Natal, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, AFDA, Boston Media House and City Varsity.
