President Ramaphosa has finally completed his week-long self-isolation in his Cape Town home and has reported back to duty today. Vice President David Mabuza has taken on the president’s responsibilities in the meantime.
The president reportedly felt unwell after the memorial service of the last apartheid era and late former president F.W De Klerk.
Since the president ended his period of isolation, he will chair the final cabinet meeting for the year this Wednesday the presidency said.
All individuals who had contact with the president at the time of infection were advised to look out for symptoms and get tested themselves to protect themselves.
In addition, president Ramaphosa emphasized that the memorial for F.W De Klerk complied with all the safety regulations such as handwashing, wearing of masks, and social distancing.
In light of this news, the president cautioned all South Africans to be vigilant against potentially becoming infected by doing all the necessary precautions. Additionally, vaccination remains the safest outcome to avoid severe illness.
According to the presidency, “President Ramaphosa repeats his call for everyone in the country to stay safe by being vaccinated, wearing face masks, washing or sanitizing hands frequently, maintaining a social distance, and avoiding gatherings.”
