Take Buffalo City (that used to be East London) ANC councillor, Sindiswa Gomba (in the centre of the picture), as a prime example. She attacked a fellow councillor with a hammer and then caused R150,000 damages to a hired Mercedes-Benz in her care. A report by auditors Ernst & Young implicated her and found her guilty for contravening the code of conduct of councillors.
Yet, she has now been promoted to the mayoral committee. According to the Buffalo City Democratic Alliance Caucus they are appalled by the news op her promotion. ”Councillor Gomba has habitually been accused of irregular behavior during her time in council where the ANC has repeatedly covered for her.”
The DA also say Gomba served on the pre-2011 mayoral committee and her performance was poor at best. “We have no reason to believe anything will be different this time around. This promotion will see her salary more than double, to over R840,000 per year. An unacceptable reward for a public representative with such an unfavorable track record.”
The ANC of Jacob Zuma is increasingly proving that it’s a closed crony society that rewards an elite few – the polar opposite to the open opportunity society that the DA is striving to create for South Africa.
