SAA sleeps while Cape Town shines

Cape Town is the best city in the world, according to a United Kingdom poll. Yet South African Airways (SAA) has chosen to scrap their direct flights to the Mother City. Go figure!

SAA sleeps while Cape Town shines

About 17,000 readers of British newspaper The Telegraph not only thought Cape Town was the best city in the world, but ranked South Africa the third best country to visit, after New Zealand and the Maldives.

You can read the poll’s results on the newspaper’s website. What you won’t find there – in fact, anywhere – is an indication of why the racist SAA (they only want to train black pilots) chose not to fly to Cape Town any more. Some industry insiders suggest it was to sell off parking bays at Heathrow to make their bottom line on bad bookkeeping look a tad better. (Read our earlier story about SAA needing R5billion bailout from government.)

The Telegraph poll was conducted earlier in 2012 and formed part of the Telegraph Travel Awards. Readers were asked about their favourite travel companies, destinations, hotels, and websites. Cape Town was ranked above Vancouver in Canada and New York in the USA.

British Airways confirm that Cape Town is one of their top 10 global routes… The loyal UK market has high spending capacity and
still holds much potential for us to nurture and cater to. Now all we need to do is tell some idiot at SAA about this and see if he or she actually has the capacity to follow the argument.
