A therapist recently took to social media to explain how toxic masculinity affects the relationship they have with women and how they view themselves.
While the power struggle is pretty much still prevalent in our society, KC shared with her TikTok users about the reasons why men are still socialized to be patriarchal.
“Men Do Not Like Women”
In this video, the therapist explains that men are raised to be strong and hide their emotions as well as be completely different from women. This is essentially the basis of her argument that men do not like women.
“The most eye-opening thing I ever learned about men was from human sexuality class in college where the professor told us that men don’t actually like women. He said that the way our society socializes boys to ‘become men’ is not to teach them how to be men. It’s just to teach them how not to be women.”

Therapsit On Gender-Based Violence
This is essentially why society cannot move forward with issues such as Gender-Based Violence through men who are told that it is manly to be and not to cry.
Now, one TikTok user gave his take on the matter and said “Very true. It took me a while as an adult to let myself cry when I’m feeling sad and not push it down. Yeah, not passing that on to my future son.”

Making A Difference
In a world where Gender-Based Violence is very prevalent, it is imperative to take a step back and take a look at factors contributing to this phenomenon, and this is one of the ways we can eradicate such a harmful problem.
Since we are in a world that changes constantly, we do not want to continue with old patterns and therapist KC Davis is one of those people starting the conversation so that we are able to come to a practical solution.
So, one way we can do this is by unlearning previous structures and unpacking why things are in the way they are.
