Political experts say that in this way the government wants to make the impression that there isn’t any political vacuum in the country. Moreover, since the time, the current president went to London, Yemi Osinbajo has almost disappeared from both television news and newspapers.
However, the Vice-President has finally come out of shadows. As Naij.com informs, Osinbajo has recently toured the Niger delta, which is rich in oil, and promised to finally put an end to all Boko Haram attack in the area. Additionally, Buhari`s deputy met various delegations and ambassadors and professionally headed several important cabinet meetings in Abuja.
Osinbajo also issued a statement where he said that “need to ensure that all facilities are working in the country and that things are being run properly.” So now, as experts say, Nigerians see that the government works appropriately even though the president is away.
Chris Ngwodo, the distinguished political analyst, is sure that regardless of Mr. Osinbajo’s undeniable competence and high visibility, the Vice-President is limited as acting president because political realities in Nigeria have always been uncertain.
“In Nigeria, all powers are given to certain personalities rather than in the office they reside in. It means that Yemi Osinbajo occupies the position, but has almost no power. For example, he may have been taking certain painkilling decisions: the adjustment in the foreign exchange policy which flows from a broader people agreement. The Vice-President will not be able to make independent decisions. He is limited in everything because Nigerians voted for Buhari but now for Osinbajo,” resumed Mr. Ngwodo.
Yinka Odumakin, the Yoruba people representative, said that Buhari’s inner circle would all the time try to keep him in check. “That is why we will not see much from Vice-President Osinbajo apart from just representative movements because his powers are insufficient. So, he will always act under the shadow of his boss,” he explained.
An ex-justice commissioner of Lagos state, Mr. Osinbajo, was appointed to be vice-president as a counter-balance to President Buhari.
